The information attack on Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant is aimed at fomenting radio-phobia — hatred and fear of radiation that has been substantially reduced in the last years due to the effective public awareness policy of Rosatom.
Obviously, some people don’t like this and are trying to shift the responsibility for the accumulated ecological problems onto the nuclear power industry. They don’t see that the nuclear power industry is doing all it can to solve the ecological problems we have inherited from the Soviet times. The best example is Rosatom’s project to resettle the residents of the village of Muslumovo (Chelyabinsk region).
That’s why the false alarm raised by these people has received no reaction from the population and has caused no panic among them.
Note
The radiation situation at Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant and in the nearby area is within norm.
The radiation background in the area is not higher than the natural level, which proves that the plant is operating safely.
The radiation background at Leningrad NPP, in Sosnovy Bor and its suburbs is 0.13 mSvh, which is normal background for this region.
