Huseyn Chechenov, member of Federation Council Sub-Committee on Nuclear Energy

– Kudankulam is being built by Indians under our close control

Kudankulam is one of our key NPP construction projects abroad. It will be one of the most modern nuclear power plants in South-East Asia: two 1,000MW reactors with highly efficient safety and operating system – this is the project Atomstroyexport is planning to further promote on the world market, particularly, in Asia.

The key peculiarity of the project is that the Indian partners are most actively involved in the construction. Unlike the other similar “turn key” projects, where Atomstroyexport is doing the whole work on its own, in India we have just 80 specialists and are just controlling what the Indians are doing themselves. This is a big advantage for our Indian partners as they are acquiring unique experience. They have not built so advanced reactors before and are presently facing certain problems and difficulties. But they are acquiring positive experience that will help them to effectively operate the plant as soon as it is launched.
