Husein Chechenov, member of Federation Council Sub-Committee on Nuclear Energy

– A company like Atomflot must be managed by a person having big experience in implementing large-scale tasks

On June 6 Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko appointed Vyacheslav Ruksha as Acting Director of Atomflot FSUE.

In late Aug Atomflot will be given all Russia’s nuclear icebreakers. The state is consolidating its key transport asset – a fleet that will help it to develop the vast natural resources of our northern territories. Here the state cannot have a secondary role. Today, we are creating more and more active economic zones in the Arctic region – we already have 10 zones – and we need modern nuclear fleet for serving them. Only icebreakers can guarantee the dynamic development of our northern regions.

A company like Atomflot, the future owner of all of our nuclear icebreakers, must be managed by a person having big experience in implementing large-scale tasks. Vyacheslav Ruksha has been the manager of Murmansk Sea Shipping Company and he knows this sphere and this region. He has also been the head of the Federal Sea and River Transport Agency and the advisor of the president of Russian Railways. He has big experience and it will certainly help him in the new office.

Note

The President of the Russian Federation has decreed to include Atomflot FSUE in the list of companies whose property will be owned by Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation on behalf of the Russian Federation.

In late Aug 2008 Atomflot FSUE will be given control over all the nuclear icebreakers of Russia: Lenin (1959), Arktika (1975), Siberia (1978), Russia (1985), Taymyr (1988), Soviet Union (1988), Vaygach (1990), Yamal (1992) and 50 Years Since Victory (2007).
