On June 6 Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko appointed Vyacheslav Ruksha as Acting Director of Atomflot FSUE.
Judging from his biography, Vyacheslav Ruksha will be able to fulfill our large-scale plans in the field of development of northern territories.
In the Arctic Ocean we have found trillions of cubic meters of gas, billions of tons of oil. We are actively developing Shtokman deposit in the Barents Sea. These projects need stable transportation support and only modern nuclear submarines can provide it. Before the appointment Ruksha managed a number of transport-related agencies and his experience will certainly help him in the new office. Today, we need not only to preserve our nuclear fleet but to improve and develop it.
Note
The President of the Russian Federation has decreed to include Atomflot FSUE in the list of companies whose property will be owned by Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation on behalf of the Russian Federation.
In late Aug 2008 Atomflot FSUE will be given control over all the nuclear icebreakers of Russia: Lenin (1959), Arktika (1975), Siberia (1978), Russia (1985), Taymyr (1988), Soviet Union (1988), Vaygach (1990), Yamal (1992) and 50 Years Since Victory (2007).
