The contract for supply of Russian nuclear fuel to Kudankulam NPP in India will benefit both parties and is good for bilateral cooperation. The use of Russian nuclear technologies will benefit both India and Russia: we will gett a long-term partner wishing to develop his nuclear energy, while India will get a powerful plant and unique NPP construction experience.
That’s why the Indians are trying to build the plant on their own under Russia’s supervision and guidance. The point is that India has little gas and coal and its electricity networks cover only 80% of its territory. Today, India has the world’s second biggest demand for new power plants. In order to solve this problem, our colleagues must learn to build nuclear power plants by their own strengths. You never have very much time in this business: you better spend more time on education rather than on endless reparations.
I am sure that our presence at Kudankulam is the beginning of long-term partnership in different spheres.
