A few days ago the energy ministers of G8 and their colleagues from India, China and South Korea discussed the situation over the growing fuel prices in the world and made public the scenarios and strategies to 2050 by the International Energy Agency. In this document the IEA recommends the governments of all countries to develop renewable energy sources and nuclear energy, to save energy and to reduce CO2 emissions.
The recent statement of the G8 energy ministers about the need to intensify the development of nuclear energy is quite logical. We must save oil and gas: we better use them for chemistry rather than for burning. Nuclear power plants are ecologically cleaner than thermal power plants: they do not burn oxygen and do not emit CO2. Perhaps, in the future solar energy will prevail but in the near future nuclear energy is the only alternative. Some experts say that we should develop water power plants as they are safer than nuclear power plants and are ecologically friendly. But, in fact, the construction of reservoirs for WPPs breaks the water balance and results in extinction of lots of animals and plants.
