– Share of nuclear power plants in the global power production will be steadily growing

A few days ago the energy ministers of G8 and their colleagues from India, China and South Korea discussed the situation over the growing fuel prices in the world and made public the scenarios and strategies to 2050 by the International Energy Agency. In this document the IEA recommends the governments of all countries to develop renewable energy sources and nuclear energy, to save energy and to reduce CO2 emissions.

The share of nuclear power plants in the global power production will be steadily growing. Presently, we are witnessing global nuclear renaissance. Today, nuclear power plants are much safer than they were before. The oil and gas prices are quickly growing. Coal-fueled plants emit a lot of CO2 into the atmosphere. Wind power plants cannot stop the impending energy crisis. The share of wind power plants in the total power production will hardly reach 20%. All this is urging the world’s countries to give preference to safer and more efficient nuclear energy.

During the last meeting of G8 energy ministers Energy Minister of Russia Sergey Shmatko said that the development of nuclear energy was one of the top priorities of Russia. Our country has enough capacities for developing nuclear energy. We successfully built abroad even when we had no single ongoing project at home. Today, nuclear power plants are very safe.
