– Russian nuclear technologies are restoring their leading positions on the world market

The strategic cooperation with India in the nuclear sector, particularly, under Kudankulam project, is very important for Russia: our country is not only restoring its leading positions on the world nuclear market but is also successfully developing its economic relations with India, one of the biggest markets not only in South-East Asia but in the whole world.

In the last decades nuclear cooperation has dropped from the priority list of Russian-Indian economic relations with top priority given to the sale of military equipment. In this light, the construction of Kudankulam NPP is not just a new economic project, it is a guarantee of Russia’s long-term presence on one of the major high-tech sectors of the Indian economy. Even though the Indians want to build their plants themselves, Russia will be their long-term partner due to nuclear fuel supplies. The present energy capacities of India are not enough for its economic growth. Today, India has the world’s second biggest demand for new power plants. The Indians have opted for Russian nuclear reactors, which means that we will have many more projects in that country. Today, our country is restoring its leading positions on the world nuclear market and is turning from a global fuel supplier into a high-tech energy power.
