Anatoly Petrov, chief designer of RBMK reactors of NIKIET

– Today, Russia is the most profitable partner for India in the field of development of peaceful nuclear technologies

We are ready to supply fuel for Indian NPPs. That’s why the Indians highly value our friendship. By building Kudankulam NPP themselves the Indians are mastering the complex process of NPP construction. Besides, the contract says that while building the plant and installing the equipment the constructors should teach the operating personnel of the future plant.

For the moment, India’s energy network covers only 80% of its territory. The Indian Government is planning to increase its energy capacities to 40GW by 2025. So, I think that after the successful launch of the two reactors of Kudankulam NPP our cooperation with the Indians will be continued. As you may know, the Russian and Indian governments have initialed a framework agreement for the construction of four more reactors at Kudankulam NPP (state of Tamil Nadu).

For the hosts it would be better to order a “turnkey” project instead of building the plant themselves. Now they are fully responsible for the outcome of the project. Let’s hope that there will be no problems that might influence our partnership.

The important point of our cooperation is that Russia guarantees that the whole work done under the Kudankulam and other joint civil nuclear projects will fully comply with the requirements of the IAEA.
