On June 26 the Expert Council for Legislative Support of the Nuclear Industry of the Energy Committee of the State Duma considered draft law on treatment of radioactive waste.

The new law clearly specifies the state’s duties and responsibilities in the field of treatment of radioactive waste. Complex approach to the legislative regulation of the treatment of radioactive waste in all sectors of the economy will make this activity more effective. As far as I understand, the law differentiates the duties of the state, the producers of radioactive waste and the organizations specializing in its treatment and specifies the national control agency and the national operators in the field. Now that we are beginning to actively develop our energy sector, and nuclear industry, in particular, we actually need a law meeting the modern demands.
