The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works of Bulgaria has examined the conceptual project of Belene Nuclear Power Plant, to be carried out by Atomstroyexport CSJC, and has granted the National Electric Company of Bulgaria an official permission to build the plant.

On July 10 2008 NEC and Atomstroyexport signed a protocol empowering Atomstroyexport to build Belene NPP. Hence, the parties have taken an important step towards the implementation of the project.

When we announced the tender for the construction of Belene NPP, we set up a special commission, which comprised our employee Tihomir Apostolov. The commission showed quite competent approach to the selection procedure. Since we decided that Belene NPP would have a WWER-type reactor, we selected the company having the biggest experience in building such reactors, Atomstroyexport. The best recommendation for us was the quality of the facilities built by Atomstroyexport. The Russians know this type of reactor inside out. So, we are confident of our choice.
