Vladimir Zhidkikh, member of Federation Council Nuclear Energy Sub-Committee

– Merger of Atomstroyexport and St.Petersburg Atomenergoproekt is a step towards consolidation of resources

Atomstroyexport CJSC, Russia’s operator of NPP construction projects, and St.Petersburg Atomenergoproekt, one of the three Russian institutes designing nuclear power plants, will be merged.

The merger is supposed to create new opportunities for enlargement of NPP construction activities.

The merger of Atomstroyexport and St.Petersburg Atomenergoproekt is a step towards consolidation of resources.

Our nuclear power industry has started a large-scale NPP construction program both inside and outside the country. So, it would be better if the work of our NPP designers and constructors be managed by one company.

St.Petersburg Atomenergoproekt is a highly experienced and successful design bureau. Particularly, it has designed the Leningrad NPP-2 and Tianwan NPP projects. Tianwan NPP is one of the best Russian projects so far. So, we can be sure that the merger will substantially enlarge the spectrum of the capacities of the merging companies. Now Atomstroyexport will have own engineering capacities and will have even bigger chances at international tenders. Today, we must be as competitive as possible.

This merger is not a surprise. It is a quite logical step meeting the present needs of the NPP construction market. I am deeply convinced that this merger will result in the formation of a highly efficient company.
