Igor Martushenko, expert of Center for Study of Modern Nuclear Technologies (Novosibirsk)

– The idea of the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko to consolidate the companies of the nuclear sector is being put into practice

Atomstroyexport CJSC, Russia’s operator of NPP construction projects, and St.Petersburg Atomenergoproekt, one of the three Russian institutes designing nuclear power plants, will be merged.

The merger is supposed to create new opportunities for enlargement of NPP construction activities.

The idea of the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko to consolidate the companies of the nuclear sector is being gradually put into practice. As a result of its merger with St.Petersburg Atomenergoproekt, Atomstroyexport will turn from a company building nuclear power plants abroad into a multi-product holding. It will design, produce and supply equipment for nuclear power plants not only abroad but also in Russia. As a result of its merger with Atomenergoproekt Atomstroyexpirt will get own engineering capacities and will strengthen its positions on foreign markets.

The merger will also offer Atomstroyexport strong financial support in the form of the projects that are being implemented by Atomenergoproekt in the territory of Russia, which will insure the company against possible problems under foreign projects.
