– Perm region will shortly need electricity

This year the authorities of Perm region may start active work for selecting a site for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Perm region. Almost 8mln RUR and 24mln RUR will be allocated for this purpose in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

Today, when the Russian regions have begun to rival with one another for the right to have a nuclear power plant in their territory, competence management and firm commitment have become indisputable competitive advantages. In this light, the decision of the parliament of Perm region to allocate almost 34mln RUR for the project to select a construction site for Prikamsk NPP was quite timely.

I think that the site will be selected in the very near future as, according to the governor of Perm region Oleg Chirkunov, there is no single governor in Russia who would not like to have a nuclear power plant in his region. This means that the authorities of Perm region perfectly understand that in the coming years energy resources will become the locomotive of the economic growth in the country.

Experts say that by 2030 the energy consumption in Perm region will redouble. The serious approach of the local authorities to the problem of selection of a construction site for their future NPP inspires hope that they will give no less attention to the problem of ecological safety.
