Manouchehr Mottaki, Iranian Foreign Minister

— NPP in Bushehr complies with highest safety standards

The nuclear power plant in Bushehr, a construction project being completed by Russian specialists in southern Iran, complies with the highest safety standard, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said during the Saturday conference on security in the Persian Gulf.

ITAR-TASS reports Mottaki to say: “Iran is sure that the Bushehr NPP is safe. This NPP complies with the highest safety standards and is controlled by the IAEA. The Bushehr NPP is over 100 km away from the neighboring countries but is just 2 km away from Bushehr. That’s why we attach great importance to its safety,” Mottaki said.

Speaking of Iran’s nuclear program, Mottaki said: “Iran seeks to exercise its rights, and its nuclear activities are peaceful and transparent.”

To remind, the members of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf have repeatedly expressed concern for the construction of NPP in Bushehr. They believe that technical problems at the plant may pose a threat to all Iran’s neighbors.
