“I see no big danger in building a floating NPP in the Arkhangelsk region,” the deputy of the Arkhangelsk Regional Assembly Mikhail Silantyev said while commenting on the project to build a floating NPP in the region.
“Today, we have many submarines and, if a safe floating NPP is built, I am not against its being installed near Arkhangelsk to replace the city’s heating system. There are no negative factors for the project. The plant will be able to heat quite a big territory and to produce quite a big amount of electricity. I don’t see any danger in its waste either as we know how to process it, simply this process is expensive. All waste may be processed just like any other industrial waste.”
Silantyev believes that ecologists simply parasitize on the idea of ban on nuclear power engineering in Russia, as they have nothing else to do. “If we take the idea about “dangerous” peaceful nuclear power from them, they will lose their groundlessly big salaries,” Silantyev explained.
As was reported earlier, the floating NPP will be built in Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk region, by 2010. The cost of the project is 9.1bln RUR. Similar plants may further be built in 11 regions of Russia.
