— Over 7bln RUR will be allocated for the construction of the 2nd unit of Volgodonsk NPP

7bln RUR will be allocated from the Federal Budget in 2007 for the construction of the 2nd unit of Volgodonsk NPP (Rostov region), the representative of the governor of the Rostov region in the Federation Council, the chairman of the Budgetary Committee of the FC Yevgeny Bushmin said during the Dec 20 meeting of the Rostov Legislative Assembly.

He said that almost half of the money allocated for the Rostov region in 2007 (380mln RUR) will be spent on the construction of social facilities in Volgodonsk.

12.5bln RUR will be invested in the construction of the 2nd unit of Volgodonsk NPP in 2007, of this sum, almost 7.5bln RUR — from the federal budget.

Besides, 1bln RUR will be invested in the development of the 30-km zone till 2009. «The priority is given to the safety of the NPP,» says VolNPP Director Alexander Palamarchuk. «Throughout the operation of the plant the radiation background in the nearby area has been within norm. The launch of the 1st unit has solved the problem of electricity shortfall, while the 2nd unit will allow to avoid shortages in 2010.»
