Mikhail Starozhilov, Spokesman of Sevmash

— Radiation security is priority issue for the designers of floating NPP

«All ecological standards and rules in effect in the Russian Federation have been observed. On June 14, 2006, Rosenergoatom signed a contract with Sevmash for building and supplying a non self-propelled post vessel — floating power unit with two KLT-40C reactors for NTPP MM and a general contractor contract for building and launching coastal hydraulic engineering structures and communications,» says Starozhilov.

He says that presently Sevmash is acting according to the contract. «As the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko said during the singing of the contract, Sevmash can not only optimize the building of the floating unit and the auxiliary infrastructure but also ensure the safe operation of the plant. This is due to the technology of module-aggregate assembling worked out during the serial production of nuclear submarines. Radiation security is priority issue for the designers of the floating NTPP,» says Staroshilov.

To remind, the project to build floating nuclear thermal power plant in Severodvinsk was launched this summer and is to be completed in 2010. The project costs 9.1bln RUR. Similar plants may later be built in other Russian regions and abroad.
