– The implementation of the Federal Target Program for the Nuclear Power Sector Development will help the heads of the territories hosting NPPs to carry out mid-term social-economic programs

While commenting on the results of the past year, Mayor of Kurchatov (the town near Kursk NPP) Yuri Kosyrev said:

The Government’s Federal Target Program «The Development of the Nuclear Power Complex of Russia in 2007–20110 and till 2015» is the first target program suggesting specific measures for preserving and developing the nuclear power sector. It is really good that the program sets short-term tasks and we will be able to see their results in the near future: 2007 will already show how the program is implemented. We are also glad that the program has been provided with conceptual basis in line with President Putin’s initiative: there is a clear connection between the President’s tasks and Rosatom’s future solutions.

It should be noted that the program will help the heads of the territories hosting NPPs to carry out mid-term social-economic development programs.

However, the program does not specify the social-economic parameters of its implementation. Besides, we are concerned that the 5th unit of Kursk NPP is not mentioned in the program’s plans for finishing power units of high completion degree.

I hope that the program will not be seriously changed and its first stage will be carried out in time. I also hope that the development of the nuclear power complex will be Russia’s strategic task on both domestic and international levels.
