Alexander Tsapin, deputy governor of Voronezh region

– Establishment of Rosatom was a serious step towards strengthening of Russia’s nuclear industry

The establishment of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation was a serious step towards the strengthening of Russia’s nuclear industry. We are laying the foundations of a powerful state structure, which will preserve the unity of our nuclear industry.

The establishment of the corporation is very important for Voronezh region. We are starting Novovoronezh NPP-2 project and the state’s support is a guarantee of effective construction.

It is important that President Putin has appointed Sergey Kiriyenko as the head of the corporation. Mr.Kiriyenko is an energetic, responsible and competent manager. Under his management, Rosatom began to actively develop. Today, we have a specific program for developing our nuclear industry. We are planning to build new NPPs and Novovoronezh NPP-2 is the first in the list. The project will receive 132bln RUR. The first unit is to be launched in 2012 and 2nd one in 2013.

To remind, in late Nov 2007 the governor of Voronezh region Vladimir Kulakov and the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko signed a cooperation agreement.

They agree to jointly implement the federal program for the development of the nuclear industry, particularly, by building and launching Novovoronezh NPP-2 as well as to jointly use nuclear energy, enhance nuclear safety and preserve and increase the industrial and scientific-technical potential of the region.

The agreement is opening up new prospects for Voronezh region to develop nuclear energy and to attract big investments.
