We should build nuclear power plants rather than water or thermal power plants. NPPs do not emit hazardous matters and do not cause serious changes in eco-systems.
The new management of Rosatom has started a large-scale NPP construction program and I welcome this initiative.
They are effectively solving the radiation problems of megapolises and are paying increasingly big attention to the problems of ecological safety of nuclear facilities.
For example, in 2007 Kola NPP launched a system for treatment of liquid radioactive waste: the systems removes radio-nuclides from radioactive water and turns them into crystals for safe storage for 300–500 years.
This system will help Kola NPP to effectively solve its problem of liquid waste for the next 12 years. The system has proved its efficiency and Kalinin, Kursk, Smolensk and Leningrad NPPs are also planning to have it.
