Nikolay Kuzelyov, director general of All-Russian Research Institute of Applied Physics and Automation

– The end of the year has shown that our program goals are not only ambitious but also achievable

At the end of this year we adopted large-scale development programs. Considering the tough competition on both home and foreign markets, even experts doubted that they were realistic.

Today, at the end of the year we have seen that the programs are not only ambitious but also practicable. We have the following prerequisites for being optimistic:

— in late 2007 we established Atomenergoprom OJSC and adopted a law on state nuclear energy corporation;

— Atomenergoprom has already consolidated 31 joint stock companies, the corporization of federal state unitary enterprises is underway;

— for the first time in our modern history, we have started to build two nuclear power units, presently, we are building 11 nuclear power units in Russia and abroad;

— Russian technologies are conquering foreign markets.

I would like to note that VNIITFA is actively working in all the directions set by the Government and Rosatom: we are developing military technologies; increasing the output of our nuclear power plants (the goal is 25%-30% in 2030 from 16% at present); enhancing the competitiveness of our technologies on the world market.

Our scientific potential and innovative activities are the basis of our further development.

«In my opinion, renaissance on the modern market is creating new, modern ideas and approaches.»

First of all, we should develop innovative technologies. Modern nuclear technologies are not just reactors and turbines but also measuring and control systems and relevant software.

VNIITFA is developing a wide spectrum of high technologies:

— radiation treatment of water and medicines, modification of the qualities of materials, desinsection of agricultural produce by means of irradiation;

— gas discharge detectors and control and radiation monitoring systems;

— equipment for defect detection, computer tomography, automation, non-destructive testing;

— control of elements for management of technologies, identification of materials and safety;

— equipment for radiation therapy and diagnostics;

This will help us to solve the third goal – to successfully compete on the world nuclear technologies market.

The start has already been given.

We have started producing roentgen analyzers for composition control and ecological monitoring.

Our innovative projects have received awards. We have won a number of tenders for supply of equipment both in Russia and abroad.

We have offered ways to organize this process. For example, we might set up a center of technologies and equipment on the basis of VNIITFA.

These are our goals in 2008.

I wish you happy New Year and great achievements for the benefit of our industry and Fatherland.
