– About the key directions of the work of Rosatom’s Public Council in 2007

The key directions of our work in 2007 were involving the civil society in the formation of nuclear research policies; establishing a dialogue with representatives of public organizations, government institutions and individuals; participating in regional and central scientific and expert projects.

In Jan 2007, jointly with Rosenergoatom, we organized public hearings of the Leningrad NPP-2 project. This year we have set up working groups for the problems of safe use of nuclear energy in Irkutsk and Murmansk regions. We have made preparations for establishing a PR center.

We have organized and conducted a contest of social projects aimed at enhancing the public awareness of the problem of peaceful use of nuclear energy and the social security of the people living near nuclear facilities. We received 150 applications from regional organizations, 47 of them were proclaimed the winners.

We pay special attention to the problem of special education of children, students and young specialists.

This year our working group for ecological control has taken an active part in the project for resettlement of the residents of the village of Muslumovo (Chelyabinsk region) to a newly built Novomuslumovo area.
