Alexander Putilov, director general of VNIINM, chairman of Rosatom’s Center for Nano-technologies and Nano-materials

– In order to ensure the efficiency of the center, in Oct 2007 we set up a special bureau

One of the key events of this year for the All-Russian Research Institute of Non-Organic Materials (VNIINM) was the decree by the head of Rosatom to appoint VNIINM as the coordinator of Rosatom’s activities for development of nano-technologies and nano-materials and to set up a special bureau for ensuring the efficiency of Rosatom’s Center for Nano-technologies and Nano-materials.

In Oct 2007 the Bureau submitted to the Government a number of projects for their inclusion in the federal program for the development of the nano-industry in Russia. The projects require a total financing of 32bln RUR and will involve 117 companies: 28 representing Rosatom, 13 — Education and Science Ministry, 18 — Russian Academy of Sciences.

The projects have been drafted by an expert group on the basis of analysis of the course of the program.

In Dec 2006 the Center took part in the 3rd specialized exhibition of nano-technologies and nano-materials NTMEX-2006 with some of its member-companies (VNIIHT, VNIINM, Aileron) granted certificates.

On Sept 28 2007 the Center exhibited its products at Rosatom.

On Nov 7–9 2007 VNIINM and the Center conducted an exhibition of Rosatom “Functional Materials for Energy Sector” and later in the month took part in the conference “Nuclear Technology Materials.”

On Aug 2, in line with the Government’s decree on the approval of the federal target program for the development of the infrastructure of the Russian Federation in 2008–2010, one of the Center’s organizations, VNIINM, was named as the coordinator of the project “Functional Nano-materials for Energy Sector.”

Under the program VNIINM will receive big financing (1.2bln RUR in 2007–2010, 223.5mln RUR in 2007) for creating a complex for production of functional and construction nano-materials and articles for nuclear power technologies of the new generation.
