Dmitry Tsurikov, director of Nuclear Safety Institute of Kurchatov Institute

– In India we are going to build our most advanced reactors – WWER-1000 of NPP-2006 project

I welcome the Indian-Russian agreement for the construction of four more units at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant and for cooperation on other sites.

Today, nuclear power plants are much safer and more efficient than any other power plants. Our cooperation with India is good both economically and politically. I think that the above agreement is a big step forward in our nuclear relations.

In India we are going to build our most advanced reactors – WWER-100 of NPP-2006 project – the safest reactors for the moment.

India has repeatedly said that it is going to build new nuclear power plants. For this purpose, it will have to invite several corporations. As far as I understand, as soon as the first units are ready India will analyze their performance and will decide who will build the next ones. So, I think that it is an excellent chance for us to show that our reactors are really good. I am sure that we will beat our rivals as we can offer the most important combination for the moment – safety and economic efficiency. Today, our nuclear society is working hard to become the best in the world.
