Vladimir Travin: The construction of 2nd unit of Volgodonsk NPP is being carried out according to the schedule

The construction of the 2nd unit of Volgodonsk Nuclear Power Plant (Rostov NPP, Rostov region) is being carried out according to the schedule, the director of Atomenergoprom OJSC Vladimir Travin said during a visit to the construction site.

“The project is being carried out according to the schedule. The financing is being provided in time.”

During the visit Travin met with the managers of the contractor organizations and the general contractor, Atomenergoproekt OJSC (Nizhniy Novgorod).

The latter told Travin that they had already mounted the reactor shell, completed the concreting of the reactor and were mounting the turbine generator.

Over 3,000 people are involved in the project for the moment. The general contractor is short of highly-qualified specialists but is solving this problem.

The 2nd unit is to be launched by the end of 2009.

Presently, Volgodonsk NPP operates a 1,000MW reactor launched in 2001.

The 3rd unit is to be built by 2014, the 4th one – by 2016.

According to the federal target program for the development of the nuclear power industry of Russia, over 23bln RUR is to be spent on the construction of the 2nd unit of Volgodonsk NPP with 113bln RUR more to be allocated for the construction of the 3rd and 4th ones.
