In late June representatives of Rosenergoatom Concern and Iberdrola company (Spain) met in Moscow to discuss their cooperation programs
This year the parties are planning to cooperate on enhancement of the capacities of nuclear power plants, use of new types of nuclear fuel, energy saving, modernization of nuclear reactors and extension of their service lives.
During the meeting the parties discussed their joint project to enhance the safety and efficiency of the 5th unit of Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant. Shortly, Rosenergoatom Concern will consider the problem of financing of this project. If the project proves to be successful, its experience will be applied at the other NPPs of the Concern.
The parties also discussed their cooperation in the framework of the TACIS program. Particularly, Iberdrola experts provide their colleagues from Kola and Novovoronezh NPPs with technical assistance in introducing the system of technological risk monitoring at NPPs with WWER-1000 reactors and in studying the effect of nuclear radiation on the properties of the materials of WWER in-vessel components. Particularly, the parties have started drafting materials for joint feasibility study of the integrity of the internals of a WWER-1000 reactor in case of extension of its life.
Iberdrola is one of the biggest and the most dynamically developing energy companies in he world. It owns 45% of nuclear reactors of Spain.
The framework cooperation agreement between Rosenergoatom Concern and Iberdrola was signed in July 2005. Since then the parties have conducted annual seminars, working conferences and exchanges visits with a view to discuss problems of mutual concern. This year the parties are planning eight scientific-technical seminars in Madrid, Moscow and at nuclear power plants.
