Rosenergoatom Concern and European Commission have held negotiations
The first deputy technical director of Rosenergoatom Concern Yuri Kopyov met with the nuclear safety executive of the European Commission Jean-Paul Julia in Moscow, today, July 4 2008.
The meeting was part of Julia’s visit to Russia. The European official has already met with representatives of Rosatom and Rotekhnadzor. The objective of his visit is to establish contacts with new organizations and managers, who are the EC’s partners under nuclear safety cooperation programs.
During the meeting Kopyov pointed out that all the TACIS projects were being implemented quite successfully. A total of 51 projects worth a total of 98mln EUR are underway for the moment. The program is near completion.
The new program of cooperation with the European Commission is envisaged for 7 years. The application of Rosenergoatom Concern for the first two fiscal years totals 26mln EUR. In order to start a tender procedure on these projects it is necessary to sign an inter-governmental financial agreement. Julia said that the parties were successfully working towards that end.
Kopyov suggested not dissipating funds on general questions but focusing on specific tasks in the most promising fields of cooperation.
One of such strategic tasks for the near future is the development of a strategy for maintenance of equipment significant for the safety of nuclear power plants.
