Successful Tests of fuel pins with modern tablets

On the 10th of May in OAO “Machinery building plant” (Electrostal, Moscow region) there was a successful test of fuel pins for modern heating units of WWER-1000. The tablets in heating units had no hole in its centre.

The use of these tablets increased the uranium capacity of fuel pins, which can lead to the increasing level of fuel consumption efficiency and prolongation of the system lifetime.

As a result of the test the special commission made a decision that these fuel pins may be taken into production. The members of the commission were representatives of OAO «TVEL», Rostehnadzor, «Kurchatov institute» and FSUE «VNIINM named after A. A. Bochvar». The commission signed a special document. The first flow of new fuel pins will be shipped to Kalinin NPP in June 2006.
