Yana Ruzavina (Kursk NPP) is the World Champion

In the world fencing championship Russian sportsmen Svetlana Bojko, Yana Ruzavina, Aida Shanavina and Julia Hakimova won gold medals in team competitions.

With the score 23:22 they defeated the marginal favorites of the tournament – the team of Italy.

Despite of unsuccessful performance in personal tournament, where the Russians managed to win just two medals (gold and bronze medal), we hoped, that our combined team will perform more successfully.

Our men started well (two victories with the teams of Finland and Austria), but unfortunately, in the quarterfinal during the additional time they lost to the team of Ukraine — 24:25. Apart from men’s failure our girls have easily defeated the teams of Austria (45:18) and Japan (40:24), and in the semifinal the hardest fight brought them the victory over the team of Poland — 40:38.

The destiny of the championship was solved in the duel of Russia and Italy. Each name of the Italian team represents a legend: Valentine Vetsali, Jovanna Trillini, Margarita Granbassi. The violent support of their “tiffozi” fans was also a big advantage. Only Svetlana Bojko knew how to win the world championships in our team.

Nevertheless our sportsmen are studying this difficult science well. It was Bojko who earns the first advantage to our team making the score — 7:5. And then young Aida Shanaeva makes something improbable. She simply devastates the world champion, Margarita Granbassi — 5:0 and the score is 12:5 after the fourth fight. Granbassi is shocked. That day she doesn’t appear in the ring any more.

The Italians saved themselves in the last fight. And 28 seconds prior the end the great Vetsalli makes the score — 22:22. An overtime comes. It is lasting only for 18 seconds. Imperceptible movement — and the rapier of Yana Ruzavina reaches its aim! The Russians are the champions of the world.
