The development of the nuclear power industry in Russia must be one of the ways to solve the problem of energy shortfall, the chairman of the board of RAO UES of Russia Anatoly Chubais said during a press-conference in Moscow on Dec 12
He said that today one can overcome the energy crisis only by new launches. “Here, the nuclear power engineers have a serious program. Unfortunately, at first, Kiriyenko’s program 2010 provided for only 1 GW, but, later, after serious revision, the nuclear power engineers developed two additional programs that may give us up to 3,000 MW by 2010 – something we really need. That’s why I certainly support the program. It contains a relevant decision on tariffs, we have also supported even though they are of no use for us – what we really need is MW,” Chubais noted.
At the same time, he pointed out that there is a global tendency to develop nuclear power engineering and Russia, who has serious projects in the sphere, should not stay aside. “It is absolutely obvious that the world is turning towards nuclear power engineering and we, with out scientific and technological groundwork, must certainly move ahead, with all security norms considered.”
