On Dec 13 2006 Microsoft and Rosatom announced the signing of Memorandum on Cooperation

The memorandum was signed during a meeting of the Microsoft and Rosatom managers, who thereby confirmed their agreements on partnership in the sphere of information technologies. The Memorandum makes Microsoft one of the key technological partners of the nuclear power industry.

Now that nuclear power engineering is experiencing global renaissance, it needs a modern complex approach and up-to-minute software basis for effective information analytical work. During the implementation of the large-scale NPP construction project provided for by the federal target program «Development of Nuclear Power Industry,» Microsoft, with its high experience and competence, may become a strategic partner in the most advanced directions. Microsoft is potentially one of the key suppliers of solutions for IT strategy.

The Memorandum specifies the goals and directions of the Microsoft-Rosatom cooperation. The goals are based on the understanding of the importance of the Russian nuclear power sector development and provide for strategic partnership in the following directions:

— establishing and developing system of information-analytical support of the nuclear power sector;

— developing solutions for technological process automation;

— optimizing licensing expenses.

Rosatom is also planning to involve Microsoft experts in IT projects.

During our cooperation we will form a modern IT infrastructure which will substantially enhance the security, manageability and stability of the information systems used in the nuclear power sector, says Birger Sten, Director General of Microsoft Rus. We will also centralize licensing agreements and will carry out special discount policies for reducing expenses for purchasing licensed software and applying software certified in line with the laws of the Russian Federation. During the projects we will apply the most advanced international experience in the sphere.
