In Jan-Dec 2006 Russian NPPs operated without serious security incidents

No INES incidents were registered at Russian NPPs in Jan-Dec 2006

The same security index was registered in 2005.

A total of 12 security incidents were recorded in 2006. In all the cases the automatic security systems proved quick and effective. A total of 43 operational failures were registered at NPPs in 2006 against 40 failures in 2005.

Technical Director of Rosenergoatom N. Sorokin says that in 2006 they continued raising safety standards at the operative NPPs.  «Just like before, we had no INES incidents and did all we had planned to raise the safety of the plants,» says Sorokin.

«The key fact is that in the last years our NPPs have become increasingly safe with the average annual number of security incidents ranging stably within 40–47. This is certainly a good index,» says Sorokin.

Rosenergoatom comprises 10 NPPs with 31 units whose total capacity is 23,242 MW. Of them 9 are VVER-1000, 6 — VVER-440, 11 — RBMK-100, 4 — EGP-6 and 1 — fast breeder reactor.
