Rosatom delegation led by Sergey Kiriyenko has visited Kudankulam NPP (India)

During the visit the sides discussed the course of the plant’s construction and equipping.

In the Information Center of Kudankulam NPP the Russian delegates met with the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India Anil Kakodkar. The sides discussed the course of the project and the prospects of Russian-Indian cooperation in NPP building.

Kiriyenko noted: “Today, we are witnessing substantial progress in the project. The efficiency of the Russian-Indian cooperation is growing.”

During a joint press-conference, the Russian side said that the fuel for the plant will be supplied in the second quarter of 2007.

“Kudankulam will be provided with fuel throughout its service,“ Kiriyenko said.

Presently, the sides are building the 1st and 2nd units with very safe VVER-1000 reactors. Under the contract, Atomstroyexport should draft working documentation, supply equipment and materials, supervise the construction of the premises, maintain the equipment, train Indian personnel at Russian NPPs and enterprises. The construction, installation and launching work is being carried out by the Indian side.

Note:

Atomstroyexport CJSC is the leading Russian organization implementing inter-governmental agreements on the construction of nuclear facilities abroad. Presently, this is the only company in the world who is simultaneously building 5 nuclear power units in China, India and Iran.

In Oct 2006 Atomstroyexport won a tender for building Belene NPP in Bulgaria
