Russia is ready to build 4 new units at Kudankulam NPP in India, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov told journalists in Bangalore (India)
«Russia is ready to build 4 new units and to intensify its activities in nuclear power engineering in India,» Ivanov said.
«During the visit of the Russian President to India we will sign relevant documents. Lets wait for two days and see,» he said.
Vladimir Putin will visit India Jan 25–26. «Each new visit is a step forward in strengthening our cooperation,» Ivanov said.
As was reported earlier, in the second quarter of 2007 Russia is planning to supply nuclear fuel to Kudankulam NPP, a facility built with the participation of Russian specialists. «In the second quarter of this year we will supply fuel to the 1st unit,» the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko said on Monday.
He pointed out that the Russian side is ready for the first supply. «We have coordinated this problem with IAEA and they do not object,» Kiriyenko said.
He said that Russia is ready to refuel Kudankulam throughout its service. «Our cooperation with the plant meets all the norms of the international law and we will continue it. Russia believes that India will not do anything contrary to the nonproliferation principles. That’s why we will continue to advocate lifting restrictions from that country,» Kiriyenko said.
