The 1st unit of Balakovo NPP was restarted on Jan 31 2:52 AM after the removal of a power failure in one of its operating systems
The unit was suspended on Jan 29 2007 11:12 PM in line with the technological regulations. No safety limits were surpassed.
The radiation situation in the region is within norm.
Note:
Balakovo NPP is part of Rosenergoatom Concern. It was built in 1985–1993 and has 4 VVER-1000 units with a total capacity of 4,000 MW. The 1st unit was launched on Dec 28 1985. Rosenergoatom operates all 10 Russian NPPs (31 units with a total capacity of 23,242 MW).
No single INES incident was registered at the Russian NPPs in 2006, just like 2005. The Russian NPPs are among the safest nuclear facilities in the world.
