The Russian leadership believes that Siberia has all conditions for NPPs and is going to build them in this region, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a press-conference in the Kremlin today.
Asked by a journalist from Zelenogorsk (Krasnoyarsk region) about this possibility, Putin said that he had instructed the Government to draft a plan of generating capacities deployment and Siberia is one of the priorities in this program. This region has relevant demand and necessary personnel for implementing the project.
Putin noted that the lack of necessary energy capacities is becoming an obstacle to the development of the country’s economy: “We are already facing this problem in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Western Siberia.” He reminded the journalists that the plan of generating capacities deployment till 2020 will be considered in Mar.
As regards nuclear power engineering, Putin said: “We cannot do without it.” He said that it is for Rosatom and regional authorities to decide where exactly to build NPPs.
