Nuclear energy will become one of the most promising spheres of Russian-Slovakian cooperation in the coming years, Sergey Naryshkin
Nuclear energy will become one of the most promising spheres of Russian-Slovakian cooperation in the coming years. Particularly, the sides are discussing the possibility of wide participation of Russian companies in the construction and reconstruction of nuclear power units in the territory of Slovakia, Russian Vice Premier Sergey Naryshkin told journalists after the meeting of the Russian-Slovakian Inter-governmental Commission for Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation.
Slovakian Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek explained that the question is about establishing a European-Russian consortium for the construction of two units of Jaslovske-Bohunice NPP. He expressed wish that Russian suppliers have high chances for winning the relevant tender.
Jahnatek said that the sides are also discussing the formation of a consortium for the completion of the 3rd and 4th units of Mohovice NPP. This project could be carried out by Russian specialists and by means of Russian technologies. However, presently, the plant belongs to an Italian company (66% stake) and it is for that company to decide who will build the units.
Speaking of the chances of the Russian side, Jahnatek pointed out that Soviet and Russian technologies are highly rated in Slovakia for their efficiency and safety. He said that it is necessary to build technologies that will be compatible with the fuel they will get. “Otherwise, we may face certain problems. The units must be built for specific suppliers,“ Jahnatek said.
