27.02.2007 // Interfax

Russia confirms its readiness to conclude a nuclear energy cooperation agreement with Japan, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov told journalists in Tokyo on Tuesday

«We have already expressed our opinion of the preparation and conclusion of the inter-governmental agreement on nuclear energy cooperation. We are ready to continue these discussions,» Fradkov said.

He said that the main thing is to bring together the capacities of the two sides. «In this light, we can rely on our potential in energy, nuclear industry, space and communications.»

«Our Japanese partners need our technologies and capacities for reprocessing and enriching nuclear fuel, we need Japanese technologies in our investments projects, particularly, in communications and space,» Fradkov said. He noted that there are precedents of such cooperation, particularly, in the disposal of Russian submarines.
