06.03.2007 // Press service of Rosenergoatom

The authorities of the Far East Federal District support the project for building floating nuclear power plant in the region

A Rosenergoatom delegation took part in the meeting of the Council of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President to the Far East Federal District that took place in Khabarovsk on Mar 2. The key subject was the implementation of the Federal Target Program «Economic and Social Development of Far East and Zabaikalye in 2008–2015 and Till 2020.»

Plenipotentiary Representative of the President to the Far East Federal District Kamil Itskhakov showed interest in floating NPP construction projects and expressed commitments to support them, especially if the orders are placed at the local shipbuilding plant.

The delegation, which was led by the head of Rosenergoatom’s branch «Directorate for Floating Nuclear Thermal Power Plants» Sergey Krysov, visited Amur Shipbuilding Plant, who has a 50-year experience in nuclear submarine construction.

«We have inspected the plant and have got convinced that it is able to produce floating power units that could be deployed in the Pacific region. It is very important for the concern to have such a unit in the Far East,» Krysov said.

The capacities of Amur Shipbuilding Plant and Sevmash will allow Rosenergoatom to build 2–3 floating NPPs a year.

Presently, Rosenergoatom is building the first floating NPP at Sevmash (Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk region). The facility is to be launched in May 2010.
