16.03.2007 // Press service of Atomstroyexport

Atomstroyexport has started the physical launch of the 2nd unit of Tianwan NPP in China

On Mar 16 2007 the Russian side started the fueling of the reactor. The first fuel rod was installed at 6:58 PM Moscow (44:58 AM Beijing time). The process is to be finished by late Mar 2007. A total of 163 fuel rods are to be installed at the unit. This is one of the final stages of the project.

The next step is the final assembly of the reactor, to be completed by mid Apr. This process will be followed by physical experiments.

The minimum controlled capacity is to be attained in the first half of May,

The fuel for the reactor has been produced by Novosibirsk Plant of Chemical Concentrates and supplied by Atomstroyexport’s partner TVEL Corporation.

Note:

The contract for Tianwan NPP construction was signed in 1997. Under the contract, Russia is obliged to build two WWER-1000 power units with a total capacity of 2000 MW. This is the biggest Russian-Chinese project. Tianwan is the most powerful NPP project in China.

Experts say that WWER-1000 reactors are very safe. They have deeply echeloned protection and several safety levels.

Atomstroyexport CJSC is the leading Russian organization implementing inter-governmental agreements on the construction of nuclear facilities abroad. Presently, this is the only company in the world who is simultaneously building 5 nuclear power units in China, India, Iran and Bulgaria.
