Atomenergomash and Alstom are setting up a JV for production of turbines for NPPs

During a meeting in Moscow on Apr 2 2007 Director General of Atomenergomash Kirill Komarov and President-Director General of Alstom Patrick Kron signed an agreement on the formation of a JV for the production of steam generators for NPP machine rooms. Present at the meeting were also the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko and Ambassador of France to Russia Stanislas de la Boulaye.

The JV will be registered in the territory of the Russian Federation and located in the machine room of ZiO-Podolsk. The share of the Russian side is 51%,

Alstom will provide the technology of production of low speed generators and Arabelle turbines. Atomenergomash will provide a 60,000 sq m production building at its subordinate company, ZiO Podolsk. A total of 300mln EUR will be invested in the project.

The agreement reflects the firm commitment of the sides to develop their long-term strategic economic partnership and to work out a complex solution to the problem of turbine production.

The turbines will be supplied to Russian NPPs under the federal target program for nuclear energy development in Russia in 2007–2010 and till 2015 as well as to NPPs that are being presently built by Russia abroad. The project is an opportunity for Russia to have a high-tech, export-oriented machine-building industry.

A big JV project with one of the leading power equipment producers in the world, Alstom, will become an example of the complex influence of the nuclear energy development program on the development of the national economy.

The JV will solve the problem of the lack of low speed turbine production in Russia and will enhance the nuclear safety and the export potential of the country.
