Rostekhnadzor confirms ecological safety of nuclear projects

06.04.2007 // Press service of Rostekhnadzor

Rostekhnadzor considers ecologically safe the construction of a number of facilities at the country’s NPPs

The head of the Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Control Konstantin Pulikovsky has confirmed the positive expert resolution on the construction of the 4th unit of Kalinin NPP (with the plant’s capacity to be raised to 4,000 MW). The 4th unit is to be launched by 2010. Rostekhnadzor has sanctioned the project.

Pulikovsky has also ratified the positive findings on the construction of a complex dry storage and spent nuclear fuel (SNF) treatment facilities at Leningrad NPP as well as on the construction of radioactive waste storage and treatment facilities at Leningrad NPP.

LNPP is constantly modernizing and improving its nuclear waste storage and treatment technologies. The development of radioactive waste and SNF treatment complexes is a new stage of LNPP’s program for ecological safety enhancement.

The plant’s projects for dry and liquid radioactive waste treatment meet all existing safety and environment protection standards.

The construction and launch of such complexes is a guarantee of the plant’s safety and efficiency.

The first part of LNPP’s SNF container storage complex was launched in the first quarter of 2003.
