The nuclear cooperation agreement with Japan may be signed this year: Sergey Kiriyenko

By the end of this year Russia may sign peaceful nuclear cooperation agreements with the United States and Japan, the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko said at an annual conference of the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum in Aomori (Japan).

Our key task for this year is to renew our existing nuclear energy agreements and to conclude new ones. The agreement with Canada is already being renewed. «By the autumn we are planning to sign a new agreement with Australia,» Kiriyenko said.

He noted that the work on the agreements with the US and Japan is developing quite successfully and fruitfully. He reminded the audience that the agreement on the start of the talks with Japan was reached during the meeting of the Russian and Japanese PMs in Tokyo in late Feb. «The experts are successfully working on the text. We believe that all these agreements can be concluded and effected this year,» Kiriyenko said.
