Today, First Vice Premier of Russia Sergey Ivanov and the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko are to visit Kovrov, where they will inspect the local production of gas centrifuges for uranium enrichment.

The press service of Rosatom reports that during the inspection the sides will consider the possibility of creating a united complex for production and operation of nuclear centrifuges in Russia.

Ivanov and Kiriyenko will familiarize themselves with the “Russian Gas Centrifuge” project, which has been implemented by Techsnabexport since Dec 2005. Today, Russia has two producers of gas centrifuges: Kovrov Mechanical Plant and Tochmash company (Vladimir). The project is aimed at improving the relevant technologies. “Rosatom’s policy is aimed at consolidating the potential of the companies producing gas centrifuges and their components for uranium enrichment plants,” says the press service.

Russia is the leader in uranium enrichment and holds 40% of the market. The Russian gas centrifuge producers satisfy the needs of almost 1/3 of all NPPs in the world.
