The Fair of Innovative Projects “NPP-2006” finished in Moscow on Apr 24
The Fair was organized by the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy (Rosatom) and Rosenergoatom Concern with the support of VNIIAES, Atom-Innovation Center, Atomstroyexport CJSC, Atomenergomash OJSC, CIS Committee on Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy and WANO.
The objective of the Fair was to select best innovative solutions for the NPP-2006 project (construction of WWER-1000 reactors) and to consider a mechanism of their implementation.
During the Fair the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko formulated the key tasks of Russia’s nuclear power industry: “Our key task is to develop nuclear energy. Particularly, this year we are already starting to build two nuclear power units a year. We are going to finish them by 2012. In 2015 we will start building three reactors and, then, four reactors a year. This is our absolute priority.”
“However, in order to fulfill this task, we need a serial production of nuclear reactors. In fact, each NPP is a unique project. Only in case of serial production we will be able to do what we are planning to do. We need a serial production — NPP-2006,” Kiriyenko said.
“Serial production will allow us to more actively introduce innovative technologies. We need innovations very much and we can borrow them from related industries too,” Kiriyenko noted.
“Today, when developing innovative technologies, we should seek to maximally reduce the time, cost and intensity of production. Everything that can help us to reduce the design and construction period is a priority for us,” Kiriyenko said.
He pointed out that innovation is not only technology but also personnel. “No coincidence that among the projects presented at the Fair we can see innovative approaches to the training of personnel for NPPs. This is also innovation and this will help us to solve our tasks.”
