Fair of Innovative Projects NPP-2006 and New Technological Platform has been held in Moscow

The Fair of Innovative Projects NPP-2006 and New Technological Platform – an exhibition of technical solutions and projects for the nuclear power industry — finished in Moscow on Apr 24.

The Fair was organized by the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy (Rosatom) and Rosenergoatom Concern with the support of VNIIAES, Atom-Innovation Center, Atomstroyexport CJSC, Atomenergomash OJSC, CIS Committee on Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy and WANO.

The objective of the Fair was to select best innovative solutions for the NPP-2006 project (construction of WWER-1000 reactors) and to consider mechanisms of their implementation.

In his welcoming address to the Fair participants, Minister of Industry and Energy of Russia Viktor Khristenko said: “The dynamic development of the nuclear power industry is one of the priorities of our state energy policy: the nuclear power industry is traditionally a source of innovative and high-tech solutions.”

The head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko also stressed the importance of nuclear energy: “Rosatom is highly interested in solutions that can help it to reduce costs, time and labor intensity and to introduce whatever it has as quickly as possible.”

The chairman of the Sub-Committee on Nuclear Energy of the State Duma Committee on Energy, Transport and Communication Viktor Opekunov said: “Today, nuclear energy is the key component of Russia’s energy security. In this light, you are facing an crucial task of developing innovative technologies and competitive projects – projects we could do quickly and effectively.”

The Fair consisted of an exhibition and discussions (nine roundtables). The chairman of the VNIIAES (All-Russian Research Institute for NPP Operation) Pyotr Schedrovitsky pointed out that Rosenergoatom had examined a huge number of projects. He noted that the Fair was a really remarkable event in the sector.

The deputy director general of Rosenergoatom Vladimir Asmolov stressed the necessity of developing specific mechanisms for implementing the projects presented at the Fair.

“What we have seen today is the top layer, the layer of ideas and technical solutions, but not of their practical realization. The head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko has instructed me to sign the “road maps” of the projects that can be effectively used for NPP-2006,” Asmolov said.

“Today, while starting this project we should think about the future – about NPP-2009. It should be quite a different plant, a plant that will serve us till the end of this century. In order to fulfill these plans we should start forming necessary teams already today.”

The roundtables discussed the following subjects: financing of nuclear energy development, NPP evolution, risk management, control over new NPP construction, technical support of NPP construction, personnel development, the role of NPPs on the new electricity market, New Technological Platform of the Nuclear Energy Sector.

Among the topics were:Project NPP-2006: Evolution of Technical-Economic Parameters — Moderator: Vladimir Asmolov, Deputy Director General-Director for Scientific-Technical Policy of Rosenergoatom;NPP Construction  — Moderator: Alexander Polushkin, Deputy Director General-Director for Development of Rosenergoatom;NTP: Scope of Choice and Prospects of Development — Moderator: Oleg Sarayev, Deputy Director General of Rosenergoatom-Director of New Technological Platform; Role of NPP on new electricity market— Moderator: Alexander Apkaneyev, Deputy Director General-Director for Economy, Finance and Sales of Rosenergoatom.

The Fair has proved to be an excellent opportunity for exchange of experience and the participants have decided to hold such forums on a regular basis.

The participants, sponsors and official partners of the Fair were presented with awards and honorary diplomas: among them sponsors of the Fair – Sberbank, Atomenergomash and Atomstroyexport; and partners: the All-Russian Research Institute of Non-Organic Materials, Power Machines OJSC, Research Institute of Pulse Technique, VSC Insurance House, Promengineering CJSC, New Pipe Technologies Ltd, Alfa Laval Potok, Fizpribor Plant (Moscow), Impulse, VBT-Service, Radico, WANO.

Among the laureates are All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics, All-Russian Research Institute of Atomic Reactors, Institute for Physics and Power Engineering, Promengineering, VNIIAES, Research Institute of Pulse Technique, Obninsk Center for Science of Technologies.
