5th unit of Kursk NPP may be launched in 2010–2011
The 5th unit of Kursk NPP, which is being built for covering possible energy shortfalls in Moscow, may be launched in 2010–2011, the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko said during a government meeting today.
However, he noted that the completion of the unit will require special financing.
Finance Minister of Russia Aleksey Kurdrin informed the Government that Rosenergoatom is asking 27bln RUR for completing the project within the next three years.
The construction of electricity networks will require additional financing. Kiriyenko noted that the completion of the unit is the most optimal way of supplying Moscow with electricity. This project will cost much less than the construction of special capacities.
Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov agreed that the financing of the project requires a special decision and that this problem must be given special attention.
