Atomstroyexport and Burman delegations have held the first negotiations on the construction of a nuclear research center in Myanmar
Representatives of Atomstroyexport and Myanmar met in Moscow on May 16 2007 to negotiate the preparations for the construction of a center for nuclear studies in Myanmar.
The negotiations were part of the preparations for the implementation of the Russian-Burman inter-governmental agreement on joint construction of a nuclear research center.
ASE was represented by Vice President Alexander Glukhov, Myanmar by Science and Technology Minister U Thaung.
The negotiations will be continued in Myanmar in the second half of 2007.
The center will help Myanmar to carry out research in nuclear physics, bio-technology, material science as well as to produce a big variety of medicines.
The center will foster the economic and social development of that country.

Russian nuclear power engineers have great experience in building research centers with reactors of Russian design. In 1958–1984 such centers were built in 12 countries: China, Czechoslovakia, GDR, Yugoslavia, Egypt, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Iraq, North Korea, Poland and Libya.
