Valery Limarenko will be appointed as Director of Engineering Company to be established on the basis of Nizhniy Novgorod Atomenergoproject

Valery Limarenko will be shortly appointed as Director of the Engineering Company for NPP Construction and Equipment that is being established on the basis of Nizhniy Novgorod Atomenergoproject.

The director of Atomenergoproject Yuri Ivanov will be appointed as the first deputy director of the new company.

Atomenergoproject will be one of the three engineering companies that will engage in NPP design, construction, equipment, operation and maintenance. Presently, these activities are carried out by different companies. The establishment of a company that will do the whole work alone will reduce the cost of NPP construction projects and will shorten their period from 7–8 to 5 years.

“An engineering company that will be responsible for an NPP project from “A to Z” will certainly be interested in reducing its time and cost so as to spend the saved money on its own development,” says the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko. Until now NPP designers have got just 10% of the cost of NPP projects; so, they were not interested in making them cheaper.

Presently, Russia is implementing a federal target program “Development of the Nuclear Power Complex of Russia in 2007–2010 and -2015.” Under this program the country is planning to start building two GW nuclear power units a year and by 2015 to have 10 ready units with a total capacity of 11GW and 10 ongoing projects. By 2015 the total capacity of the Russian NPPs is supposed to be raised to 33KW. A total of 674.800bln RUR will be budgeted for this purpose, while the total cost of the program is 1.471trl RUR.

On May 28 the deputy head of Rosatom Vladimir Travin will introduce Limarenko to his new staff.
